One of the most important platforms for young innovators is Samsung’s initiative, Solve for Tomorrow. The first season was very successful, with all three winning teams incorporating their companies.

The second season has seen excellent response and the competition has received over 70,000 registrations from youngsters across 500 cities, towns and villages. This time, Samsung India has partnered with the Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology’s Startup Hub and Foundation for Innovation & Technology Transfer (FITT), IIT Delhi.

The solutions that have been put forward are interesting. Among the top 30 teams, 44 per cent presented ideas around the themes of education and learning, 23 per cent on environment and sustainability, 20 per cent on diversity and inclusion and 13 per cent on health and wellness. These teams represent 15 states and one union territory and the list includes West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Bihar, Odisha, Haryana, Rajasthan, Assam, Telangana, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Gujarat, Maharashtra and Delhi.

The applicants are in the 16 to 22 age group and three best ideas stand a chance to win a total of Rs 1.5 crores. That’s in addition to advanced training by FITT, IIT-Delhi, mentorship by Samsung and government experts as well as the opportunity to visit Samsung sites across the country.

These top 30 teams will receive online training on design thinking and innovation and will be mentored by Samsung and its partners.

“We are excited about the 70,000 plus registrations we have received. The top 30 teams we have selected will move to the next phase of the competition and we are keen to see how their ideas shape up going forward, contributing to powering Digital India,” said Hyun Kim, corporate vice-president, Samsung Southwest Asia.
