Keeping in mind the ongoing festive and the upcoming wedding seasons, YFLO Kolkata hosted a series of fashion and beauty events starting last month. Be Glamorous, Be You by YFLO Kolkata at Taj Bengal was one such event hosted last month for the FLO members.

The event was a compilation of two masterclasses. Celebrity drapist Dolly Jain was present at the event showcasing some easy-to-do drapes for festive and occasion looks. Celebrity make-up artist and founder of the beauty brand Simply Nam, Namrata Soni, demonstrated make-up looks suitable for the festive, wedding and party season for these autumn and winter months.

Soni tried a make-up with dual-tone smoky eyes and nude lips, with an overall glossy look. While creating the look in front of the audience, she showed how to fix eye make-up with the use of powder eye shadow and gave tips on picking up the right brushes to get the look right. She emphasized on keeping the bottom of the eyes clean and filling up the top of the eyelid. Before completing the eye make-up, Soni showed the correct way to use a lash curler and apply mascara. Her next tip was on contouring, using highlighter and blush on the cheeks. She shared tips on getting intense eyes and soft eyes and getting the brow rightly done. The look was completed with the lip make-up using lip liner as the base.

Dolly Jain showed two draping styles — an open palla and draping with denim and shirt. While showing the two contemporary easy-to-do drapes, she gave tips on wearing the right underskirt, tricks on doing the pleats right and pinning up according to the position of the jewellery. Her second demonstration showed the ways to do shoulder pleats and box pleats and how to style a sari drape with a shirt and denim.

The masterclasses ended with a Q&A session. From the importance of putting a fall on the sari to add extra weight for getting the pleats right and getting the footwear right to how to make the lipstick last longer and avoid a messed-up mascara look, both Dolly and Namrata had many questions to answer from the curious audience members.

Namrata’s top tips for readers of The Telegraph:

  • Wear cluster lashes for a more dramatic look
  • Try lip gloss on lipstick
  • Opt for a dewy look with liquid highlighter
  • Remove make-up at night before going to sleep

Dolly’s top tips for readers of The Telegraph:

  • Try draping two saris together to add some drama and create a different look
  • Avoid wearing heels after wearing the sari
  • Choose the right underskirt

“The masterclass on make-up and draping with Namrata Soni and Dolly Jain was a super glamorous and informative event. I picked up Namrata’s tips and tricks on how to do everyday natural make-up to accentuate and highlight my features. An interesting takeaway from Dolly’s interaction was how versatile a sari is, by just changing the drape you could put together different looks from the same outfit,” said Saloni Moosaddee, executive committee member, YFLO Kolkata.

“It was a superb event with perfect make-up tips and demonstration by Namrata and doable sari drapes by Dolly. The looks were completed with apt jewels from Rawat Jewels. The workshop gave us complete looks for all the wonderful parties and celebrations of this season,” said Shefali Rawat Agarwal, past chairperson YFLO Kolkata.
