The M3 chip in October? Mark Gurman of Bloomberg has said via his Power On newsletter that Apple may launch new Macs post the release of iPhone 15. Gurman usually gets it right with his Apple predictions.

Now that Apple has launched new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models, and more recently new 15-inch MacBook Air, Mac Studio, and Mac Pro models, Gurman thinks the new M3 chip will first arrive in the next iMac, 13-inch MacBook Air, and 13-inch MacBook Pro. Many are looking forward to the M3 chip because it may improve raytracing on the GPU.

The report doesn’t mention any changes to the form factor. Gurman said that a larger — maybe up to 32 inches — iMac may not show up till late 2024, so the refresh will have spec bumps to the 24-inch model that’s there.

M3 chips are also expected to make its way to Apple’s 13-inch MacBooks — the MacBook Air and the MacBook Pro but there is no word about what will come in the next iPad. Also, no mention has been made of whether the October release will be through an event or a press release.

Meanwhile, rumours around the next iPhone continue to circulate. Some say there will be a pink version of the iPhone 15. As for the device line-up, it’s expected to have four modes — the base iPhone 15, an iPhone 15 Max, an iPhone 15 Pro, and an iPhone 15 Pro Max. Rumours also suggest the company may make the switch from Lightning to USB-C while the Dynamic Island, which was exclusive to the Pro models in 2022, may appear on non-Pro iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Max.
