Stuck in a fashion rut? Monochrome can be your best ally this season. One-hued fits are getting more and more creative now that designers are consistently working with saturated primary colours, offbeat palettes and wearable icy pastels, that can be on-trend and yet retain a sense of minimalism.

So be it neutral tones, staple party hues or the fail-safe black and white, if you want to make a splash with your fashion, maybe pick a colour?

Here’s a celebrity-inspired guide on how to style monochrome this season...

White

An all-white number is almost always the best pick — be it a crisp button-down shirt or a sari. The clean palate elevates a simple look to something elegant and yet holds on to a sense of minimalism. For a recent appearance, Alia Bhatt picked a striking caped pantsuit by Lebanese Harith Hashim, who is famed for his exuberant monochromatic fits. The sweeping cape-style blazer and the asymmetrical sleeves are a great match since they add an illusion of length, that can make anyone look taller.

Green

Want to go for an unusual colour? Go all out with a party-ready monochromatic number, like Gigi Hadid. The model picked a lime green, bodycon fit for a daytime event and let’s just say highlighter hues can pack a punch when styled right. Gigi chooses subtle sequins but you can go for other eye-popping accents to ground a shade.

Black

Oo Antava star Samantha Prabhu wears a statement co-ord by Love Late20, with tie-up detailing at the waist and minimalist gold accents. The cheeky midriff floss takes the outfit from a simple black ensemble to a date night fit!

Blue

Janhvi Kapoor goes for a corset jumpsuit to break the monotony of colour in this dramatic blue jumpsuit by Antithesis. This head-turning colour is easy to style and looks great on all skin tones. The sheer panels, the converging lines and the classic straight trousers flatter the waist while adding the much-needed oomph.

Very Peri

The Pantone colour of the year is ideal for monochromatic numbers. The dynamic red-violet undertones and the energised shade of purple are what make this shade such a winner. Shilpa Shetty goes for a fierce cut-out lehenga with one-shoulder detailing by Shivan and Narresh that plays up the colour’s possibilities.

Pink

Ditch the LBD for a LPD! A little pink dress can make for a fierce statement this season. Shanaya Kapoor wears a mini pink dress by Runway, featuring a slight slit on one side and a smart folded neckline. You can even opt for moodier hues of the palette like deep mauve or magenta.

Yellow

The sunny yellow makes everyone happy. Mimi Chakraborty looks adorable in this yellow co-ord set by Mehek Talreja. The top has a cute sweetheart neckline with retro-style ruffles while the straight pants add structure to the look.

Orange

Now we all know that orange is the new black, so why not explore this vibrant shade as much as possible? Kriti Kharbanda looks stunning in this orange jumpsuit with a sexy V-neckline. The structured bodice balances the flared pants while the sleek hair fits the bill perfectly!

Purple

Masaba Gupta aces the dress-up memo is this body-loving corset set. The A-line skirt highlights her waistline and the skimming corset blouse offers a tapering silhouette. The Gucci blondie bag is just icing on the cake!

Nude

If you want to channel your inner Jenner-Karshashian, a nude monochrome fit is the way to go. Take a cue from Sayani Gupta who looks suave in this bralette net overlay dress and skirt combo created by Nikhil Thampi x RSVP by Nykaa Fashion. The nude shimmer eyeshadow and lippie pass the vibe check, of course.
