Buildings in the background that rotate and coffee that pours itself out of a phone — if you have come across reels that almost look magical and unreal, then you have witnessed what is known as VFX or visual effects. These reels are created with a copious helping of software. And these effects are not limited to big-budget movies or series anymore. These have made their way to our phones, via reels! Instagrammers are using their creativity to add VFX to simple videos to create magical reels. For this edition of the Reels of the Week, My Kolkata brings to you a list of reels that awed netizens with its VFX wizardry!
There's magic in the fingers!
Imagine walking on the road and coming across an ugly sign board. You wave your hands in the air and it gets erased. No, this is not the Evanesco spell for the Potter world. This is a reel by @sayantan_16. His recent reel, which he has captioned ‘random edit’ is not random at all. It is mischievously magical as he goes around the city fiddling with signboards and even car number plates! The video creator has quite a few reels with amazing visual effects that have garnered the appreciation of his followers.
Coffee machine? Nah! Coffee from phone!
This is probably the most viral reel in recent times. As it is easy to create, anyone who has watched a tutorial, has tried it. The coffee shops around the world are also using this edit to promote their coffee. The phone with a coffee bean wallpaper is placed on a cup with screen down and just a press on the back makes the coffee pour into a cup. Isn't it fascinating? We hope it was possible to make coffee from the phone, but sadly, it is just a smart edit! As smooth as it looks, it is also magical. Buildings can groove?
You stare at the concrete jungle out of your window, and suddenly, they start grooving! That might be your imagination, but this reel isn't. Again, acing visual effects @gr8_insider has made high-rise buildings dance to his rhythm. The tall buildings move with electronic music and light effects! All this with just a click of the fingers. It is almost like a concrete disco! The creator has other reels too where we make structures move with visual effects. The Instagram account is worth going through!
Shh! Things move when you don't watch
What if signboards could move just like the photo frames or newspapers in Harry Potter? Wouldn't it be fun! Adding a bit of reality to our imagination or shall we say adding a bit of imagination to the reality, @clicks_.03 has a magical reel. The editor goes around Goa making animated sign boards with sound effects. He has also posted a tutorial showing his followers how he made it possible on the editing apps, Picsart and CapCut! Imagination has no bounds! This reel by @ur_smartmaker proves just that! Munching on a samosa, the creator realises his craving for grated cheese. He looks behind and grabs the tall building and it comes to his hand as a grater! Hilarious, right!? Feels no less than magic. With VFX anything is possible! Your ideas truly get wings and imagination creeps into reality! Similarly, some of us would want to turn trees into broccoli!
Magic beneath your feet
This one might make your legs wobble! @swarnavod finds motion on his path. What if the patterns on the floors did a little dance for you? Would you stop and watch or hop across the room? Through this reel, the illustrator asks his audience, “When was the last time you stopped to look down and notice that you're on?” Truly, if someday we start to notice little magic happening around, it would be thrilling!
