Always thought of spending a cosy evening in with bae on Valentine’s Day, but have no clue as to how to plan that perfect at-home surprise? Well, we have you covered on this. The Telegraph spoke to event planning experts Pepsii Kalwani and Shiv Karira from UD Events & More and they created two DIY Valentine’s Day decor set-ups that you can create at home by following these simple guidelines, and easily available ready-to-use elements. Let’s get started.

Garden Low-Seating Romantic Set-up

Be it a terrace, a balcony or a garden, this set-up can easily be executed at any spot. All you need is a mattress draped with solid-colour bed linen and knick-knacks on top. You can lay a neat table cloth on top and add your crockery and cutlery along with candles, flowers and bows. Use long sticks to create the illusion of a canopy and cover it with paper hangings in various shapes, rice lights, leaves and flowers. Throw around some cushions as well as balloons for added decor along with real or artificial plants that will complement the decor. You can choose a colour theme ranging from red to pink or even a beautiful white to suit your preference and add flowers and decor elements accordingly.

These glass candle stands add a look of luxury. You can choose candles in contrasting colours to make them stand out. Scented candles are also a smart addition to this set-up.

This rustic picnic basket is a simple yet elevated decor touch to your setting. Fill it with roses, or even goodies for your loved ones.

Add character to your decor with these cushions that come with cute quotes.

Romantic dining set-up

You’ll need a simple round table and two chairs to begin with. Use a sparkly or bright fabric — it can even be a dupatta crossed over — to add some glitter to your decor. In order to achieve a great evening set-up, using lights in different elements can go a long way so don’t be shy to use as many as possible. String some fairy lights over the twig canopy, or add it around your chair. Candles and tea lights can be used to brighten up the table top as well. Balloons in different shapes and lettering can be stuck around for display. One cannot stress enough on the usage of flowers and plants because after all it’s Valentine’s Day and you can go all out on the flowers, whether real or not.

These message plates add a personal touch to your decor. You can also keep photos in frames or polaroids scattered around to reminisce fond memories.

Investing in one of these quirky heart-shaped plates is a good idea as they are perfect for displaying gift items (especially if you want to seal the deal with a ring) or even serving desserts.

The disco ball table decor pieces are a sparkling touch and add to the light of the space. You can even use crystal if you prefer.

“Add a little love to your home with these 10 simple ways to decorate for Valentine’s Day. A few quick and inexpensive touches and you’ll be all ready to celebrate!
