There is a difference between liking and loving a show. Netflix knows this well and that is why the company is rolling out a two thumbs up button, which will also help curate your feed.
So far if you have liked a show, similar titles in the genre fill up the entire row of recommendation. So if you like Stranger Things, something similar will be shown. But you may have simply liked (and not loved) watching the series. And this is where the new option comes in.
Clicking on the two thumbs up button will help Netflix tailor recommendations better, based on your rating, viewing history and how and when you watch. So a double thumbs up to Bridgerton means more shows or films starring the cast, or from Shondaland, the production company behind it.
The new feature is being made available irrespective of where you’re streaming Netflix — on a TV, mobile device or web browser. Once you click on the thumb icon to rate a title, you’ll see the two thumbs up option with a feedback message that says, “We know you’re a true fan!”
The streaming service did away with its five-star rating system back in 2017 in favour of a simple thumb signal to express approval. There is no plan to introduce a “two thumbs down” rating since the single thumb down is not widely used.
