Sustaining its core design aesthetics of “simple and classic”, Darshika Menswear, the 22-year-old Kolkata-based fashion brand, has recently launched its spring/summer ’22 formal and occasion-wear collection. An amalgamation of the traditional and contemporary, the collection weaves an alluring colour story in its Indian ethnic ensembles, starting from soothing pastel green and powder pink to bright yellow and classy steel grey. Opting for subtlety in its design aesthetic, Darshika houses an eclectic range of silhouette styles including sherwanis, jacket sets, Pathani suits, bandhgalas and kurtas that feature in this collection too.
Starting out two decades back without any formal background in designing, Shagun Agarwal now retails the formal and occasion-wear brand from her 900sq ft store in Dover Lane near Gariahat in south Kolkata. Recalling the journey, she says, “I started from my room in a small house and 10 years back opened the store. Now, it is a full-blown business. In every collection, our designs seamlessly merge the old-world charm with the nouveau Indian grandeur, highlighting the rich craftsmanship from all over the country. We cater to men from 16 to 60, who value the essence of slow, handmade fashion.”
Besides its classic and minimalistic approach in design, the brand emphasises on handcrafted details like intricate embroidery and creative embellishments on silk and cotton silk fabrics, giving the silhouettes a timeless appeal. The Telegraph decodes its latest lookbook.
