Nemichand Bamalwa Jewellers in Salt Lake conducted a jewellery styling session last month with Delhi-based stylist Ishita Saluja. The session called ‘Style your Jewellery’, in association with t2, centred around the various technicalities and the effortless ways of styling different jewellery items. Ishita Saluja, co-founder and head stylist at Ishita Saluja Image Consultancy, started the workshop by explaining the different categories of people based on their choice of accessorisation.

“There are three different categories of people — the maximalist, the minimalist and the ones who are neither. Once you realise which category you belong to, buying and styling jewellery will be made thoroughly easy,” she said. Next, Ishita wanted the attendees to focus on the issues they might be facing with their choice of accessorisation. Drifting from conventional styling concepts, she suggested, “Buying outfits for your jewellery as one of the most significant aspects of styling is a highly underrated concept. I would urge you to plan your outfits around the jewellery that is readily available at your closest proximity. This is the easiest way to make use of the pieces that are lying in your wardrobe for a long time.”

Further into the workshop, Ishita spoke about another aspect of accessorisation, which is choosing to highlight one thing. “One may prefer the ears, the neck, or the wrist as the focal point that one wishes to adorn to create their style statement. Besides, we should also have the right taste of balancing jewellery, thus ensuring that no piece clashes with the outfit,” she said. The next course of discussion dealt with how different accessories can be paired rightly according to an individual’s face shape. “Whatever face shape you have, you go ahead and add the opposite shape. For example, a person with a round shape can exhibit a statement earring that has length to it. Thus, the drama relies upon the length of the jewellery that you want to opt for to do the talking,” said Ishita.
