Fashion on the streets of the global style capitals — London, Paris, Milan and New York — hardly ever witnesses a dull moment. However, during the fashion weeks, street style is on fleek. From New York Fashion Week in January to the London Fashion Week in June, statements made on the street ranged from bold is beautiful to minimal is cool. Self-expression and creativity were the highlights of the styles spotted on the streets of New York, Paris, Milan and London in the first half of this year. From minimalist suits to maximalist accessorised looks, going bold with colours in statement wear to flaunting classy prints and casual denim styles, the global street fashion scenes during these fashion weeks brought in a multitude of trends and styles for the fashionistas to follow. t2oS traces the street styles of the four big international fashion weeks that happened in the first half of the year, just as the second set kicked off with New York Fashion Week on September 8.
Black ‘n’ white:
Classic grabbed the spotlight in street style right from the beginning of this year in all the international fashion weeks. This year, the classic combination of black and white holds the numero uno position on the global trend-o-meter and is being celebrated in fashion like never before. With a striped one-piece in NYFW, bold cut-out dresses and creative zipper style in PFW, smart corseted looks and scarves in MFW, animal prints in LFW — black-and-white was a favourite hard to miss. A smart way of donning black ’n’ white was going for an all-black look with white or salt ’n’ pepper hair.
Maximal accessorises:
While minimalism is a trend being embraced by stylistas all over the world for quite some time, when it comes to accessories the trend is a contrast to that aesthetic. The bigger, bolder and chunkier the better was the statement made in street style at the big four. Apart from chunky pieces and over-layering, statement belt and choker channelled the punk and gothic charm, too. It was all about keeping the style game strong with glam and glitter.
Dopamine dressing:
If black-and-white was a classic trend that ruled the fashion scenes, dopamine is the contemporary rage. Streets of the four big global fashion weeks were sprinkled with happy shades all around. From head to toe, dopamine dressing was all about channelling bold choices without inhibition, expressing one’s mood through their clothes and letting creativity flow. From formal suits and comfy trench to flowy dresses, the pastiche of colours were a sight to behold.
Cool co-ords:
When it comes to smart dressing, nothing beats co-ords. From active wear to suited looks, co-ords in pastels and monotones are hot favourites everywhere. In the street styles spotted at the fashion weeks, fashionistas explored co-ords with knee-high boots, bright hues, soothing pastel blazers, jackets and even casual resort styles. We loved a look from the PFW where co-ords was not just about the outfit but about coordinating the hair colour and accessories, too!
Neutral and monotone jackets:
Puffer jackets, quilted outfits and blazers were the common trend spotted at the fashion weeks. Blazers are no longer just about decking up formal; fashionistas explored a variety with long blazers, coordinated with the Y2K-fave bootcut pants, and also as blazer dresses. From neutral shades to bright monotones, jackets and blazers were spotted covering a wide range on the colour palette.
Prints and patterns:
Patterns and prints never go out of style. With black-and-white being a hot favourite from the colour palette, chequered no doubt is back again. Geometric, floral, animal and polka dots for prints, and stripes, tie-and-dye and a variety of other patterns were spotted aplenty.
Fringes and fur:
Be it channelling the glam and glitter vibe, going simple with bucket hats as accessories, styling a coordinated look in skirts with sexy slits or pulling off a lazy trench look, fur and fringes added detailing to jackets, coats and co-ordinated styles.
Suited and booted:
From going classic in Canadian tuxedos and tailored suits to exude a style statement that is formal and minimal to keeping it semi-formal by styling it up in montone blazers and pairing with a variety of boots, the suited and booted looks in the fashion weeks displayed a wide range of taste and choices.
Quirky shades and bags:
When it comes to accessories, sunglasses in a variety of colours and shapes were a popular choice this year at the fashion weeks. So were the bags. Choices in sunglasses varied in colours from ombre and fluorescent to classic black and tinted in retro red or blue. Shapes ranged from wide-frame, boxy to geometric. In bags, clutches, backpacks, totes, hobo, saddles, slings, baguettes and bucket varieties came in different shades and colours, including transparent ones.
Haute hair:
One of the highlights in style at the international fashion weeks this year were the hair colours. Shades of red, pink, blue and green were not only monotone favourites for co-ords and blazer looks, but for hair dyeing too.
