Halloween falls on October 31 this year. Although a western concept, it is wickedly tempting for us Indians. For all those who grew up watching Friends and Modern Family, the hindi teleseries Ssshhhh...Koi Hai and Aahat or found Casper cute and was intrigued by Count Dracula, we would have loved to have a day where we could celebrate the scary. Having a ‘Come As You Like’ party to attend wouldn't be so bad, either! However, if you also love Halloween and wish to feel the excitement of it at home, then here are some recommendations on DIY crafts from Instagram. If you are hosting a house party, these will come handy.
DIY ghost taper candles
Planning a candle-light dinner? These spooky candles will make it a eerie feast. Easy to make at home, all you need are some new white candles. As shown by DIY enthusiast @casagrella, these can be made only within 10 minutes. If you have kids at home, they will also enjoy this activity. So don't forget to engage them! Check out the step-by-step guide from here.
Ghost pops!
Having kids over at your party? Give them a trick-o-treat surprise. Get some lollipops and turn them into mini ghost pops. DIY artist and mom @kelly.oester has a brilliant idea where she uses cupcake sheets to make these cool lollipop wrappers. It could be a fun way to display the lollipops for the kids. Does not take much effort or time, but the results are spook-tacular. Check out the reel.
Paper Jack-o’-lanterns
Can Halloween ever be Halloween without Jack-o’-lanterns? But buying a big fat pumpkin — just to scrape it out for a home decor sounds outrageous to our desi morals. So, as an alternative, you can try making this paper Jack-o’-lantern @the.littles.learn at home. This might take a little effort and time, but it is easy to make if you follow the step-by-step process. Get the little ones to help you on this.
Origami bats
Spider webs and bats are the OG components of a haunted house theme. While spider webs are easy to recreate with strings, you can now easily make bats too! Get hold of some black chart paper and wobbly eyes from the stationary. Next, watch the reel by @littlemiisscraftss below and use origami to make cute little bats. These paper bats can be tied to string to make a garland or using double-sided tapes, you can stick them around your house. You can even make them bigger and hang them from the ceiling.
Spooky leaves
Go eco-friendly with your Halloween decor using these dried leaves. Go around your neighbourhood and collect as many dried leaves as you can. Wash them gently and pat them dry. Like @hellowonderful_co shows, use acrylic paint to paint the leaves and draw spooky faces on them. You can use these as table decoration. It is also a fun activity that the kids can do complete independently.
Flying ghosts
Now here's a fun craft that can replace your beer pong balls! These cute little flying ghosts are a perfect addition to your house party. @playroomstories has used egg crates to cut out shapes of the cheesecloth ghost and painted them. Using a straw, these ghosts can fly. How? Check out the reel!
