There is so much romance in everything that Sabyasachi Mukherjee creates. And if consistency a winner makes, Sabya will be on the podium every single time. His Couture 2022 that was unveiled on Instagram on Thursday night is a breathtaking spectacle of unabashed indulgence and drama. There is so much exquisite splendour in those garments that you cannot help but go ‘wow’! The mood is laid-back, glorious and decadent. Dipped in shimmer and shine, Sabya’s muses are strikingly stark. Their kohl eyes and nude lips accentuate the gorgeous ‘brooding silver, dusty gold and withering grey’. They are global beauties with a Kolkata core. Like all of Sabya’s muses are. Relentlessly sexy and oozing palpable intelligence.
The utterly beautiful line plays with silk, wool, velvet and tulle to craft pieces like only Sabya can. Poetry layered with vivid imagination. So simple yet mesmerising. He talks about the “old palaces of Kolkata” and the “old homes of North Kolkata”. The collection captures the same bittersweet nostalgia in the ‘hand-crafted old-world zardozi, printed vintage florals and artisanal embroidery’. You can almost imagine Sabya shooting this on the sets of the poignant Jalshaghar, the Satyajit Ray classic. #goosebumps
His women are modern and bold and he puts them in pieces which define just that, never missing his heritage heartbeat though. Teamed with his jewellery and accessories, they are these alpha females, marching towards you, with an aura so powerful that you almost can see it in their eyes. You want to see yourself in them. Bathed in incredible confidence and wearing a lovely Sabya. #dream
