The coolest gadget of the year is coming to India and it is in pre-order mode. It’s shaped like a barrel and it can project videos almost anywhere in the room. Called The Freestyle, the projector from Samsung lives up to its name and has been getting rave reviews since the unveiling at this year’s CES.

Show it to a 12-year-old and the kiddo will love it and ensure you buy it much before Christmas. The portable projector weighs only 0.8kg and is compact enough to be carried around in one hand. What is most interesting is its ability to project at 180 degrees.

Usually, one has to worry about how to mount a projector. Not with this one. It’s all plug and play. The Freestyle automatically corrects its angle, focus, brightness, and colour to your surface. With keystone correction, images can be enjoyed at sizes from 30 to 100 inches. Since it is rated only 550 lumens, get a dark room for the best image quality.

The Freestyle also offers smart TV features that are available in Samsung smart TVs along with built-in certified OTT applications. Smart connectivity can be enjoyed with mirroring and casting features that are compatible with both Android and iOS mobile devices. In addition, The Freestyle enables to set the ambience with the ambient mode and prism effect using lens cap.

There is a 360-degree five Watt speaker and a far-field mic array (for Bixby or Alexa voice controls). Plus, there is one HDMI and one USB-C jack. What we have heard from tech journalists in the US, the projected images are of decent quality and the colours are bright and vibrant. The clear audio quality is also something people are talking about.

Since it runs Tizen, you can easily set up almost any movie streaming app you have in mind. You can also use The Freestyle for things like projecting photos on the wall or even just listening to music. Basically, it ensures you can watch movies and shows anywhere in the house.

You can pre-reserve The Freestyle on Samsung’s official online store between till March 28 for Rs 2,000 and get Rs 4,000 off on final purchase.
