Onset Homes, a sustainable brand of interior upholstery with a focus on cushions, came back to serve their loyalists after a six-year hiatus. Helming the brand is The Telegraph columnist Neha Jhunjhunwala, a person with extensive experience in design, art, and export of fabric and textiles. Needless to say, the brand is a careful curation of ideas and emotions to add the perfect dose of aesthetics to your living space. Whether it is the cosy bedroom with a dash of blue or the green lawn that you lovingly tend to every morning, a cushion is a great addition everywhere. We spoke to Neha about the brand’s revival and her plans for the future.
Her personal journey building a decor-influencing brand on Instagram brought her to the idea of reviving Onset Homes. Having extensively worked in the export of textiles, the growing consumer base chasing Instagram aesthetics from the confines of their homes, wasn’t lost on Neha. As her page @design.on.the.go flourished, so did her resolve. Building a sustainable community of artists and consumers was the main motive. Thus every fusion cover comes with a tag mentioning the artisans’ names and they also get to keep a cut of the profit. “Of course, I want to make profits but that is secondary and the idea to keep alive Indian art forms and intricate threadwork and more forms the crux of the brand. It is important for me to tell the stories of the artists and creating a direct channel through these tags is a step forward in that direction,” said Neha.
Every collection is customisable according to your specific needs but Onset Homes doesn’t want you to spend time racking your brains for the perfect addition to your space or gifts for your loved ones. Think rakhi, Diwali or house-warming — their collections are curated in such a way that you can pick up the entire lot with your eyes closed. Customise your shapes and sizes on their website when you order or WhatsApp them if you have any specific requests. Soon set to start catering to an international audience, here are glimpses from a special shoot with Onset Homes, styled by Neha herself.

Going by the name Earthen Notes, this collection keeps in mind the need for neutrals in your decor. One can’t imagine interiors without neutrals and this collection aims to incorporate sand, beige and creams alongside the quintessential blacks and whites. “The idea was to play a lot with textures and shapes and that’s what lends to Earthen Notes, our ode to the rooted elements of nature,” said Neha.
Internationally, pink is a popular choice for interiors and bringing with it the universally loved floral motifs is the Poems in Pink collection. “Pink and flowers both are happiness agents and in a post-pandemic world, we definitely need bursts of this,” she said. Perfect for your balcony, the pink against the green of nature is the combination you didn’t know you needed!
Vibrant blue is the hero of this collection that is all things aesthetics and style, aptly named Moroccan Tales. “I believe blue is a colour that goes with everything,” Neha is quick to add. Based heavily on the tiles, architecture, and art styles of Morocco, this collection aims to bring a sense of calm to your surroundings. Blue is indeed the warmest colour!
For Neha who discovered her green thumb during the pandemic, like many others, green occupies a special place in her heart. In her attempt to bring nature home, this collection called The Foliage came into being. However, plants are never just green, often showing shades of yellow, bronze and brown and that’s what was incorporated in this collection.
