Beautifully stark and minimal-pretty. That’s Ode by Oindrila and Arka’s signature. Founded in 2020 by NIFT alumni Oindrila Choudhury and Arka Kundu, their latest edit draws inspiration from the patterns of the Brahmi script and is statement-y in its simplicity. “The Brahmi script was chosen as the inspiration for our collection due to its rich cultural significance and timeless beauty. As one of the oldest writing systems in the world, Brahmi embodies a sense of heritage and tradition that resonates deeply with our brand’s ethos of honouring the roots while embracing the future. Its elegant curves and intricate detailing provide a source of endless inspiration for our designs. Additionally, we were drawn to the script’s versatility and adaptability,” says Oindrila.

Comprising dresses and co-ords in earthy shades and pastels, Brahmi revels in effortlessness. “Translating the script-inspired blocks into our designs involved a thoughtful process of integration and reinterpretation. We carefully incorporated the geometric shapes and patterns derived from the Brahmi script into prints. In our prints, the blocks are arranged in intricate patterns that pay homage to the rhythm and symmetry of the original script. Whether scattered across a dress or arranged in a border along the hem, these motifs create visual interest and invite closer inspection,” says Oindrila.

Pleats and “embroidered buttons” are the little details that Ode has played around with in the collection.
