Designer Medhavini Khaitan Agarwala’s menswear label, housed at Lake Terrace, completes a year and to celebrate it she rolls out an exclusive lookbook with t2. Apart from adding a bunch of ethnic ensembles keeping in mind the next-gen, she has also added back shirts to her repertoire, a garment that was part of her label when she started her fashion journey back in 2004. Post the shoot she sat down for a quick chat with t2.

You are back with shirts, how are you feeling about adding your first love to the profile?

I’m loving it! I’m very fond of designing shirts and I’m glad that I’m back to it! Overall, I think it was a very smart move, as Indian wear is seasonal and there is a requirement for shirts by men all around the year.

Medhavini 2.0 completed a year. How would you describe the journey?

It’s very tough to describe it in words! The year has been an emotional ride. Without the support of my family, this would not have been possible. And of course the Almighty! Nothing is possible without his blessings. I’m very grateful. We have had a good first year and we have had a lot of learning to do as well. Happy to see the progression in menswear. The market has expanded and we are very happy to be back.

From 2004 to now, how do you think Calcutta’s men’s preference towards shirts has changed?

I think when I started it was a different era, 20 years ago. Since then, there has been a huge shift in the mindset. Most people are looking for something different and they are ready to experiment. The next-gen wants to explore. There has also been a significant increase in the number of events and functions in and out of the city. Demand is increasing. There is also a dearth of designer shirts in the city. I hope to expand this line in the coming months.

Medhavani’s festive kurtas can offer a great range. From classic to contemporary and modern, it fits all styles. Model Kutubuddin Sheikh looks spiffy in a sea green textured front-open kurta with a touch of silver and mother-of- pearl. He pulls off the look with off-white churidar. Matching his vibe is Yusuf Chishti in a sky blue asymmetrical kurta with pintucks and threadwork. White slim pants complete his look

What can we find in the festive edit?

In the festive edit, there are several exciting additions. Firstly, we’ve introduced denim pieces, bringing a contemporary twist to traditional wear. You can expect to find kurtas with shirt-style designs, blending modern and ethnic elements seamlessly. Additionally, we’ve incorporated asymmetrical cuts into the collection, adding a unique and stylish flair to the outfits. These new elements aim to offer a fresh and fashionable take on festive attire, perfect for those looking to stand out during celebrations.
