Fashion designers Arpita Mehta and Kunal Rawal tied the knot in a dreamy and fun wedding ceremony in August. Arpita looked ethereal in her own label and Kunal, a dapper groom. The beautiful Arpita chatted with The Telegraph on her wedding preparations, why she chose cream and gold as her wedding theme and more.

Belated congratulations! How is married life treating you? How long have you known Kunal?

Thank you so much! I’m quite surprised with the last few months, lots of travel, celebrations, chilling, I mean I feel like this time in my life I’ve taken time off from work. I’ve known him for 15 years now, before we both became designers.

What have you discovered about Kunal post-marriage? What is the best part about Kunal, the husband?

I feel marriage softens a lot of people. I’d like to say that not only for Kunal but also for myself. He’s the most loving boy as a husband.

Coming back to your August wedding, when did you start preparing?

The actual wedding production and preps started only in the first week of August. We, however, decided in January 2022 itself that the theme of the wedding would be cream and gold.

Your look was super subtle and wow. We are assuming you wore your own label?

I always knew I’m going to be a bride wearing a pastel colour, but when the thought of planning the wedding got real, I decided to go with cream and gold, as it’s one of my most favourite colour combos. Yes, of course I did (wear my own label).

Kunal and you were also colour-coordinated. That was unique. Whose idea was it?

It was a joint idea between Kunal and me to go with cream and gold for not only ourselves but also for our dear and closest family and friends.

The other looks were also subtle and so beautiful. Do you think subtle colours add a dreamy effect?

In general, I dress as per the mode I am in life. There’s no theory or standard way of designing clothes, but I always wanted to wear a black outfit at a party, so I did so at mine. For mehndi, I wanted a fresh, day colour, so I went with a mint. Also, the colour compliments me a lot.

As a modern bride, what was topmost on your mind?

I feel it was important for my personality to stand out in whatever I make, who I really am. I wanted to look extremely sensational yet comfortable.

As ethereal as you looked, you also looked comfortable. What would be your top tip for a new-age bride?

Comfort depends on the selection of your look, the way you wear it, for example, I had barely any dupattas, draped, pinned on my body, that made movement very easy. Also, I loved every piece of garment and jewellery on me, so it just made everything look easy and comfy.

What were the absolute essentials in your wedding trousseau?

I had no wedding trousseau. I don’t believe in the idea of one. With styles and trends changing every season it’s tough to curate a wedding trousseau. I feel, however, fine jewellery is something one must always have as a part of their trousseau as that’s something which is long-term. Also do not buy too much but surely some classic pieces of jewellery which can be worn multiple times.

Having pulled it off, what is the one realisation you’ve had as far as preparations are concerned?

I feel if I had any more time to prepare, I would have gone crazy (laughs). This timeline and frenzy worked just about right.
