Google search has been the default choice for decades. Will Bing take over? The Telegraph

What will be the default search engine on your mobile phone in the next year or so? Will it remain Google or will Bing take over? The AI chops of Bing are quickly capturing the imagination and a lot is at stake.

To be the default search engine on Apple’s iPhone or Samsung’s Galaxy phones, Google has to have a deal with these companies. According to The New York Times, an estimated $3 billion in annual revenue was at stake with the Samsung contract while $20 billion is tied to a similar Apple contract that will be up for renewal this year.

Rumour has it that Samsung is talking about the benefits of Bing. The news is not confirmed but if it’s true then Google has to work harder at making AI more accessible. So far Bing has been the also-ran in the search business, which has been dominated by Google. But with the progress made by Microsoft-backed OpenAI, ChatGPT is capturing a generation of users and making Bing strong.

Google has the technology but now it needs to upgrade the existing search engine with a lot more AI features. These new features are reportedly being developed under the project name Magi and it is expected to offer a more personalised experience.

We use Google search to find restaurants and markets, understand medical conditions and whatnot. The updates that have been made to Bing have made it imperative that Google takes its game to a new level. And it has to be more than what Google has shown with Bard so far.
