Wi-Fi security cameras are all over the place and these are helpful to keep an eye on packages that are left on your doorsteps or keeping an eye on pets when you are at work. Of course, prowlers can also be picked up. If not anything it can be a deterrent to mischief makers, like at small shops. There are a few brands that come to mind when one talks of security at home and business. Godrej Security Solutions is certainly among the most recallable names and it has a reasonably-priced security camera to offer — ACE Pro.
Installation is easy
A few weeks ago we got a call from Godrej Security Solutions, asking if an engineer needs to come over and install the device. Frankly, you don’t need to do that. It hardly takes five minutes to get it running if you not mounting the camera. In case you want to hang it on a wall then there are screws in the box. With a basic home toolkit you can take care of it.
Before you begin, install the Godrej ACE app and then follow a few simple steps. Register with your email ID or phone number, plug the camera to a power source and turn it on. Once the light on the camera begins to blink pair it with your Wi-Fi. During installation you need to connect with the camera from your Wi-Fi settings, which is a seamless process.
Using the security cam

At once you are taken to the options. There is a wheel on the app with which you can make the camera rotate 360 degrees (or make it tilt). The haptic feedback on the app is excellent. For the most part, I kept resolution to HD (100-degree viewing angle). The functions on the app are neatly arranged. There is an option to click a photo of the room or take a short video if you like.
There is a siren option on the camera, which can be used to scare intruders. It’s loud and it stays on for 15 seconds. What I am pleased with on the camera is motion detection, which is better than on most devices in this price bracket. By going into “cruise” mode, the camera will automatically move from one part of the room to another. Perhaps the best part of the camera is ‘auto night vision’. Now, all Wi-Fi security cameras have a night mode but the quality of the camera is better even though it’s just 3MP while night vision can extend up to 10 metres.
For those who want to store video or picture content, it can be done on an SD card (supports up to 128GB) while the built-in microphone and speaker are respectable.
Should you buy it?

There are two things I want to see in future upgrades. First, support for more storage on the SD card. Second, the connector at the back is micro USB. Sure, the connector comes in the box but having USB-C support will lead to less e-waste. As for the camera, it’s good for small shops and apartments. For its price, ACE Pro is effective and thankfully, there’s no subscription fee involved.
