Mostly subtle with a touch of a bold hue, Ridhi Mehra’s Dawn of Love is a romantic ode to the Indian bride. A chat...

Dawn of Love looks so pristine and romantic. An ‘intimate wedding edit’ is the new normal, right?

Well, so the trends say. The pandemic paved a paradigm shift and fashion did not go untouched. Downsized is the new reality. In headcount, yes, small gatherings are what’s called the new normal. That said, as far as the spirit of Indian celebrations are concerned, it is forever grand, gracious and beautiful. Dawn of Love is to celebrate this pure essence of festivities with all our heart in silhouettes made with love and made for love.

Was putting together this collection any different, given the theme?

Yes and no, I’d say. Yes because, technically with the pandemic protocols in play, things were a little different from usual in the demand-supply front. From a design perspective, however, the idea was to keep the essence of celebrations alive through our vision of it in these recent times. Characteristic to the label, we’ve always worked along the same principles so that’s remained the same for us and core to the brand.

The silhouettes are classic, but the mood is modern...

Right. This collection is an amalgamation of Label Ridhi Mehra’s signature style, a palette of both plush and sublime hues, abstract prints and timeless threadwork. Every piece has been mindfully fashioned for the women of modern India — forever discovering, evolving, resilient, eloquent and ethereal. As the world discovers the beautiful nuances of small intimate weddings, Dawn of Love embodies the pure essence of love and celebrations, ready to drape the perfect moments in allure.

What are must-have pieces in an intimate wedding for you?

A sari and a lehnga are the two must-haves for any wedding. For a more contemporary twist, one can add jackets because they’re incredibly versatile and can be styled in multiple ways. Bejewelled belts can be another glamorous add-on.

What do you love most about a modern bride?

What I love about modern brides is the fact that they know how to enjoy their day. Be it from the vision they have of their look to how they wish to express it through their ensemble, the clarity is incredible. Every one of them, as unique as they are in their own way, is looking for impressive, creative and artsy options to drop-dead gorgeous. We come across different brides and different choices but one thing common in all is the excitement to dress up for the big day. And this spirit is what’s inspiring and important at the end of the day.

It’s almost been a decade in designing for you. How has the journey been?

Truly exciting and one with learning opportunities aplenty. Every day is a new one, fresh opportunities to experiment with our creative process, evolve our business; all with a bigger goal of giving back to society in the most fashionable way.
