Blink and half the year has gone! And in the last six months, it is safe to say that many new trends have been going viral on Instagram. When we talk of trends, we mean the reels that have an audio or content in common, but are presented differently by different creators. While creativity is the key, being creative while following a trend needs talent. In many cases, it is the audio that trends. Looking back at the past few weeks, My Kolkata has decoded a list of trends that have taken the ’gram by storm.

Did you see a raccoon dancing?

Have you seen a raccoon dancing towards the end of a video to an EDM remix of the song Pedro? This trend has picked up as people have related to the happy raccoon and made it their spirit animal. The trend is to show what makes one happy. It is like saying, “My heart dances like the raccoon when I have my favourite flavour of ice cream.” Check the reel out by @vogueandcuisine, where food makes her heart dance like the raccoon! The trend is cute and full of positivity.

The ‘One Love’ trend

When One Love by Beyond The Blue was released in 1996, it went viral. Who knew it would make a comeback in 2024 as a trending track for reels. Most of the reels using this audio are focusing on creating a visual effect. The reel shows something one loves by using the object as a letter in the words ‘One Love’. The scope to show uniqueness in this trend has made creators work hard and use every creative cell of their brains. @heemi_12 uses the trend to express her love for her friends.

Gajagamini walk from Heeramandi

The songs and dance in the Sanjay Leela Bhansali series Heeramandi have been talked about in the recent past. However, one scene that has been breaking the internet for its elegance and body positivity, is the Gajagamini walk by Bibbojaan, performed by Aditi Rao Hydari in the song Saiyyaan Hato Jao. The walk that resembles an elephant's stride have been copied by various dancers and content creators on reels. However, many people like @apurvatilwani have tried their hands out to make it differently and more creatively. Yoga instructor Apurva's reel has gone viral and comments say that she has single-handedly won the trend!

Doubtwa song from Laapataa ladies

Before going into what the trend is, let's see how it started. It began when Laapataa Ladies actors Pratibha Ranta and Sparsh Shrivastava were seen grooving to the Doutbwa song in a car. The video got a lot of love for the duo's friendship. Soon after, best friends, especially a pair of girl-boy besties, started remaking the reel. It is a cute song with easy moves and very easy to follow up. Check out the ditto remake of the OG video by friends @__.simrannnn__ and @x.onetap.x.

Pushpa Pushpa

This is a pure dance trend! As the song Pushpa Pusha from Pushpa 2: The Rule was released, the dance move was immediately picked up by the netizens. People loved the choreography and the confidence in every move. @noelgoescrazy, a dancer and content creator on IG, performed it on a Mumbai local train. Noel received cheer from the co-passengers as they were seen enjoying the moves too.

Hoga Tumse Pyara Kaun?

After Premika Ne Pyar Se from Jhankar, R. D. Burman and Shailendra Singh’s Hoga Tumse Pyara Kaun from 1981’s Zamaane Ko Dikhana Hai is trending on Instagram among the old Bollywood songs. Why? Because old is gold and the simplicity and innocence of the lyrics and the dance have been loved by the current generation! It is difficult to track who originally choreographed the viral dance to this song, but people recreating it with their best friends, siblings, cousins and partners are just so heartwarming! Like @gayatri.salal and @muskan_yadav_28, many were seen following the trend together.
