Instagram seems to be getting things right and making the user experience friendly. There will be two new modes that change how the main feed works, which the company calls Following and Favourites.
Favourites shows you the latest from accounts that you choose, “like your best friends and favourite creators”. Posts from accounts in Favourites will also show up higher in your home feed. Following shows you posts from the people you follow.
“Both Favourites and Following will show you posts in chronological order, so you can quickly catch up on recent posts,” Adam Mosseri, head of Instagram, has said in a blog post.
With Favourites, you can add up to 50 accounts to the list and make changes to this list any time. People are not notified when they are added or removed. Posts from accounts on your favorites list will also show up higher in your home feed, as shown by a star icon.
At the same time, Mosseri writes: “Over time, we’re going to add more recommendations to your feed based on your interests.” Does this mean more content from people you are not following? But if Following feed is in place, things should be fine for users. The new modes have been in the works for some time and it’s finally coming our way.
