Who would have thought that putting a bunch of ingredients together to make a sauce so appealing that the mystery behind it is what makes it a success? Well @chef.pii aka The Flavour Genie may or may not have anticipated it. Back in June the mixologist and private chef posted a video on TikTok where she pours out this thick pink sauce down a filtration system. On the video are the words “It’s edible and it’s natural”. She also poured the dipping sauce over her food.

The thing about content viewed on social media is that you can’t touch, feel, taste or smell any of the videos and pictures that are showcased. The Flavour Genie dropped a bomb with the sauce that no one could figure out what the taste was.

A comment was left on The Flavour Genie’s post which expressed that we could only assume the taste of the sauce if the ingredients were revealed. Although the comment got 300 likes, Pii did not respond.

What is Pink Sauce?

The recipe of the Pink Sauce, according to it’s website thepinksauce.com, is a mix of water, sunflower seed oil, raw honey, distilled vinegar, dragon fruit, garlic, pink Himalayan sea salt and less than 2 per cent of dried spices, lemon juice, milk and citric acid. Some reviewers revealed that it tastes similar to ranch dressing but is pink. Some even said it’s a sweeter ranch.

The mystery

Although there was a following of this sauce, many raised questions. Starting with the nutritional label of the sauce, a few inconsistencies were pointed out, for example some critics pointed out that the presence of milk in the sauce might not sit well during shipping, especially during warm weather. In short, people ordering the sauce are consuming spoiled milk. On the other hand, Pii unwilling to share the ingredient that makes the sauce pink, was also a big hold-up for the viewers.

Pii’s response:

To respond to a lot of these queries and inconsistencies, Pii gave an interview and admitted there were some printing issues on the labels and that her product has been included in a facility certified by the Food and Drug Administration. As for the colour of the sauce, the Internet still doesn’t get a direct answer.
