Your hairstyle can make or break your look on an average day. When it’s a special occasion, such as your wedding day or any of the functions related to it, the importance of the right hairdo can never be overemphasized. A crucial part of planning the looks for a bride on the different occasions is deciding on the different hairstyles. The right hairstyle can elevate any simple look and can differentiate one look from the other in the wedding album. However, a thought that often worries the bride is how to keep all the looks different for the entire line-up of events. t2 got ace hairstylist Bridgette Jones to show the tricks up her sleeve for the brides-to-be. From a romantic and charming cocktail evening look to a bold and alluring reception night look, Bridgette donned three hats — that of a hairstylist, make-up artist and stylist — to showcase a wedding album incorporating latest hairstyle and make-up trends to complement the subtle-glam and minimalistic wedding trend of the season.
COCKTAIL
For the cocktail evening, a fuss-free wavy mid-ponytail adorned with faux pearl bobby pins and metal flowers to tame the tail and add a romantic touch to the look. The hair is parted carefully in the front leaving out few wavy bits to frame the face and the crown area is teased delicately to add volume to the look. A hint of purple shimmer with a blend of rose pink shadow on the eyes and pretty pink lips complement the lilac net gown with sequins, cutdana and beads work from Palki and the classy diamond jewellery from Kulthiaa Jewel.
SANGEET
A vibrant look for the sangeet, the side-swept hair with a side parting and a crimson hair extension, with red floral trimmings beautifies the handcrafted floral and tonal zardozi organza lehnga from Ruceru. Matte red on the eyes and shiny red on the lips along with contrasting diamond and emerald jewellery from Kulthiaa Jewel complete the look.
“I played with Meghna’s natural hair texture and gave a crimson hair extension for an unexpected punk-rock twist to this style. Set a new trend with this unconventional hairstyle using a few coloured extensions. Bold and bright colours on the eyes add dimension to the make-up,” said Bridgette.
“As a make-up artist and hairstylist I have been by the side of so many beautiful brides on their wedding day. So, I am always thrilled to be part of the bridal story! With both Meghna and Shreelagna, I wanted to show how you can accentuate and play around your natural looks to switch up your looks for the bridal season. To create the looks, I incorporated some basic make-up steps and tweaked and played with eyeshadows and lip colours to suit each outfit and the occasion. Incorporating the latest hair and make-up trends, these looks are suitable for anyone and the make-up works well for most skin tones,” said Bridgette Jones, hair and make-up pro.
RECEPTION
Bold and beautiful, the reception hairdo is a low side-swept chignon with soft curls, completed with fresh orchids. A colourplay of nude pink and metallic blue on the eyes, winged eyeliner and pink lips complete the teal blue and mint green resham threadwork and over-dyed zardozi lehnga from Ruceru with layered diamond jewellery from Kulthiaa Jewel.
HALDI-MEHNDI
The hair was delicately worn open in soft waves and curls with a middle parting. Fresh gypsies tucked carefully for a carefree look, and metal flowers around the voluminous crown complete the dewy-fresh and muted look. A touch of gold shadow on the eyelids accentuates the pink and purple shades of the make-up. The ivory multi-colour threadwork lehnga with yellow organza dupatta from Palki and pastel-shaded jewellery from Virrayaa Jewellery complete the look.
“The latest Haldi-Mehndi trend is to keep the hair down and then adorn it with fresh flowers! It looks feminine, subtle and yet so pretty! The make-up is trendy and can be pulled off by anyone,” added Bridgette.
D-DAY
Ditch the classic bun for a more edgy D-day hairstyle with a slight bouffant in the front and keeping the hair down with a carelessly tied look, with metal flowers. The golden flowers are paired with jewellery from Virrayaa Jewellery and a red bridal lehnga from Palki with threadwork and zardozi floral pattern on silk along with an organza dupatta. The dupatta pinned on the side allows a glimpse of the hairstyle and the make-up is completed with red and gold shades.
“You can keep your hair down and still cover your hair. Just let your hair flow and pin your dupatta on one side. These days, brides are opting to leave their hair down and why not?! The make-up has a soft feminine touch and looks great on most skin tones,” added Bridgette.
Bridgette’s Pre- and Post-wedding Hair Care Tips:
- Don’t wash your hair daily. Washing your hair daily causes dryness and oily scalp. Max two to three times a week is all you need.
- Don’t forget to protect. You should always use a heat protector before using any hairstyling tool to avoid dry and split ends.
- Massage your scalp weekly. Massaging your scalp will increase the blood flow and stimulate hair growth. It also reduces dandruff.
- Treat your ends. Timely hair trims and regular conditioning will ensure hair ends are always healthy. Conditioning is crucial in providing necessary moisture to thirsty tresses, especially after an overload of heat styling.
- Always detangle your hair before you shampoo to prevent excessive hair loss. Wet hair follicles are very fragile and highly prone to tangling. So brushing when it’s wet causes severe damage to the hair, which leads to breakage.
