Born in Jalpaiguri, West Bengal, Lahiri first composed music for a Bengali film Daadu. His parents, Aparesh Lahiri and Bansuri Lahiri, were Bengali singers and musicians in classical music. He was deeply inspired by his maternal uncle Kishore Kumar and often took to social media to share memories with yesteryear legends, especially with “Kishore mama”.
My Kolkata compiles a few posts, shared by Lahiri on his Instagram account, with Kishore da, Lata Mangeshkar, Rajesh Khanna, Dev Anand and Sridevi.
“I owe my music to him,” wrote nephew Bappi Lahiri about Kishore Kumar. The two collaborated and produced several superhit tracks like Taaki o taaki and Chalte chalte. Bappi also made his acting debut in the 1974 film Badhti Ka Naam Dadhi, starring Kishore da.
Three-year-old Bappi with Lata Mangeshkar, who he fondly called “Didi”. Mangeshkar passed away on February 6.
With his “most favorite” Sridevi. Bappi worked in around 11 films with the deceased actress including Himmatwala.
Sporting his trademark style, Lahiri can be seen here with Dev Anand.
Throwback to the superstars. In the ’70s, RD Burman and Kishore Kumar, along with lyricist Anand Bakshi, were catalysts to Rajesh Khanna’s stardom.
