There is plenty that gets mentioned every year at Apple’s annual WWDC conference. Here’s one more important piece of information that many may have missed — Apple AirPlay is coming to hotel TVs (in select markets), thanks to LG.

You read that right. The useless hotel room TV will once again become relevant. These days, usually people check-in and at night stream content on their devices. Apple is giving TV manufacturers a reason to be in hotel rooms. A guest simply needs to scan a QR code and via AirPlay access their streaming services on the hotel room TV, as well as share content there. The system won’t require users to download an app or remember any login info or password.

According to LG, AirPlay will be available to guests in hotel rooms that have LG Pro: Centric Smart Hotel TVs, starting “later this year at select properties”.

“This is a major advancement for in-room entertainment in the travel and hospitality industry, and underscores how closely we are listening to the needs of consumers who increasingly demand simple access to their personal media options on the biggest screen, wherever they are,” Michael Kosla, hospitality vice president at LG Business Solutions USA, has said. “Hotels that offer this feature will have an immediate leg up with travellers who use Apple devices, boosting guest satisfaction while providing real differentiation from local competition.”
