A stunning Irina Shayk in a black corset top and denims. Or, the iconic Jerry Hall in an LBD. All Mugler H&M style. Wonderfully powerful. Most of the collection that launched on May 11 was not for the fainthearted. Bold, sexy and edgy, it was all about statement dressing and owning and loving the body you wear. Every single day.
The Telegraph had the chance to view the collection up, close and personal on May 10, a day before its launch, in Delhi. Thumping music and a cool play of lights greeted us at The Address, Bandh Road, Chhattarpur. Inside hung pieces from the range, all charismatic in their sheer presence and ones that were stories of personality. Bodysuits, dresses, tank tops, corset-style jackets, leggings, hoodies, tees, tops, trousers, scarves, caps, blazers, gloves, earrings and necklaces were displayed on grid-like structures, almost reminding you of the monkey bars in your school playground. Reminding you to have fun with fashion.
There was a certain fierceness and no-nonsense chic about the collection along with a self-assured pride in being you and there was no way you wouldn’t be a cynosure of a party if you were to put on a piece from the collection. The corset jackets or a sheer ensemble or a dramatic neon or a ridiculously hot neckpiece or a pair of superstar gloves. A play of geometry and patterns, the clutter-freeness of the collection made it even more striking. The monochromes were at the heart of the line with a smattering of neons, inducing an element of playful innocence.
Just like Demi Moore’s famed Mugler dress from the 1993 classic Indecent Proposal. Still relevant and oh-so-haute. Seamless in spirit.
