Nupur Kanoi’s new resort wear collection, Ukiyo, is a bunch of relaxedfit silhouettes with a smart global street-style appeal to it. It takes inspiration from the Japanese word ‘ukiyo’ that elucidates on the fleeting nature of moments and emphasises living in the moment. The ‘carpe diem’ thought is enhanced with a splash of bright hues, perfect for the spring and summer times. The signature elements of the country’s fashion inspire the silhouette styles and design detailing of the comfy and spiffy outfits. Created in crepe and satin fabrics, it features a play of prints from Japanese orchids to classy stripes. A peek into the lookbook:

DESIGNER SPEAK:

“Ukiyo, our resort 2023-24 collection, is inspired by the Japanese word ukiyo meaning ‘the floating world’. It talks about living in the moment, detached from the troubles of life. It is related to the urban lifestyle and culture, especially the aspects that give us pleasure. We have used orchid prints in the collection. It is considered a symbol of virility and sexuality in Japan. It is also inspired by the ’70s ‘me decade’ that started in America, which was a time of cultural change coupled with ‘atomised individualism’. It was the rise of freedom of person and expression. A time of the explosion in fashion. Ukiyo is the imagery of global street style — a combination of flower power with jailor stripes on a trip to Abbey Road,” said Nupur Kanoi, designer.
