A heritage restaurant on Park Street, a homegrown fashion brand and a veteran actress — a collaboration for a fashion shoot that celebrates the essence of Kolkata. Trincas, the iconic restaurant on Park Street, recently opened the door to an exclusive photoshoot by the fashion brand Parama for its Durga Puja collection with Moon Moon Sen.

About hosting this unique photoshoot by the brand, Anand Puri, third-generation owner of Trincas, recalled, “It has been in the making for a while since I met Parama Ghosh a couple of years ago at The India Story. She had put up pictures of some of her designs and they were beautifully styled. Everything was so exquisite and aesthetically pleasing. We have wanted to do something together since then.”

It took four years for the duo to ideate ‘what’ they could do together. Then finally the collaboration happened when, according to Anand, their “sensibilities matched”. Explaining how the essence of Trincas and the style of Parama’s clothing blend perfectly, Puri said, “The red and the bright colours that Parama uses in her designs are very similar to what we use at Trincas. So stylistically we’re a lot similar and both are essentially a part of Kolkata. So that makes it a good collaboration.”

While the teaser on the collaboration from the brand on Instagram intrigued followers for a few days, soon the first few photos from the shoot dropped with Moon Moon Sen posing in a Golap Bagan silk sari and blouse with a Trincas Bagan Bari and a caramel custard. The edition for the pujo collection of silks starring Moon Moon Sen is named ‘Fly me to the Moon’.

Talking about getting Moon Moon Sen on-board for the shoot, Anand said, “Moon Moon Sen is a dear friend. She perfectly embodies the urban face of Kolkata so beautifully. She is still so effortless with her style and she did carry off everything with equal panache so I think she was the perfect fit for this.”

Few know that it was Moon Moon who ‘taught’ Usha Uthup, the Queen of Indian Pop, to wear keds on stage, creating a fashion statement that became as famous as her voice — and bindi! Usha'’s journey as a singer ranges from Chennai’s glitzy nightclubs to Trincas restaurant in Kolkata.

The photos from the fashion shoot blend in with the jazzy mood of Trincas. According to Anand, the restaurant has opened the door to photo shoots before but this is the first time the focus has been intensely on both brands. “Ming Room was the first Sichuan-inspired restaurant to open in Kolkata in 1983, and started the spicy-fication of what we now know as ‘Calcutta-Chinese’. And now, with this campaign, comes a new revolution of style and sizzle!” signed off Anand.
