Gharana, the traditional Indian restaurant at The Oberoi Grand, was known for its royal palace cuisine and ethnic ambience. Over this weekend, starting today, The Oberoi Grand is all set to revive the same flavours in an exclusive three-day pop-up for city diners.
Chef Sumit Kedia is recreating the royal recipes of the princely states of India, bringing back the taste of Nawabi Dawat, and t2 got a special lunch invite to check out the delicacies before the pop-up unfolded.
Here’s bringing you our faves.

Nazaket – E - Aloo Tilnaaz: Potato barrels stuffed with cheese and dried fruits are coated with white sesame seeds and cooked in tandoor. The sesame seeds not only add a crispiness, but also release that nutty, umami flavour.

Kulfi Badshah Pasan: A befitting name for this kulfi indeed. This is easily our most-loved dessert from the menu for its unique creamy mouthfeel, and trust us when we say that we have tried many a kulfi. We bet you can’t stop at just one.

"The revival of the Gharana at The Oberoi Grand is an ode to the erstwhile Gharana restaurant which once used to be the talk of the town for its regal flavours. The Gharana pop-up is aimed at reinventing the cuisines of royal kitchens and forgotten recipes. The menu will showcase a traditional cooking approach and include dishes of the Nawabs and Nizams of the bygone era. The entire experience will be well combined with the royal customs and etiquettes like washing hands in a pot provided before the start of the meal," said chef Sumit Kedia.
