A trip to Thailand is incomplete without binging on the food. Be it the roadside satays or the drunken noodles, Thai curry or some delish coconut and mango-based desserts, there’s too much to eat always!
Bringing in these tasty Thai delights to Kolkata is Ping’s Cafe Orient with their all-new food and cocktail festival that celebrates everything Thailand.
“The goal is to bring authentic Thai flavours to the city, be it in the food or the cocktails. Plus, we are also planning to keep a masseuse that will go around offering quick massages to guests for the quintessential Thailand vacay feel,” said Drishleen Sethi, franchise owner, Ping’s Cafe Orient in Kolkata.
The Telegraph sat through a long and multiple-course dinner and here’s what we chomped on.
Goong Pao: Huge tiger prawns are charred to perfection in this small plate dish that comes with a delish Nam Pla sauce that you can’t say no to. We love the kick from the bird’s eye chilli.
A Theravada Tradition: This cute cocktail packs in the flavours of coconut and jaggery in a whisky base.
A Taste of Thai Well Being: This vodka cocktail has Thai staples such as coconut water, lemongrass, galangal, bird’s eye chilli, and kaffir like along with some ginger ale for fizz.
Thai Sago Pudding: We absolutely dig this one. A coconut milk base houses jewel-like tapioca pearls along with some freshness from pandan leaves, and a great bite from fresh dragon fruit and Thai grapes.
Pad Krapow: This one’s a filling portion size with sticky rice, Thai Basil Chicken that has a good amount of heat and umami flavours and is served with a sunny side up!
