My Kolkata recommends: Although all the items on the starter list are lip-smacking, the Gobindobhog-er Fish Fry, Roshun Bhapa Murgi and Aam Ada Paneer Roast deserve special mention.

My Kolkata recommends: You have to try everything because the taste is simply superb. However, if you must choose, don’t miss Til Lonkar Torkari, Rajbarir Channar Kofta, Shorshe Narkol Chingri, Doi Katla and Kosha Mangsho.

Accompaniments

Is a Bengali meal even complete without achaar, chutney and papad?

Crunchy Bori Bhaja, Kancha Aamer Chutney, Papaya Chutney, roasted and fried papads, fryums, and the summer soother doi and sosha are perfect accompaniments. The aam and lonkar achaar add a tangy twist, making the luchi and dal experience even more delightful.

My Kolkata recommends: A spoonful of Kancha Aamer Chutney and papaya chutney cannot be too much, right?

Desserts for the soul

Traditional sweet dishes like Malpua, Mishti Doi and Kheer Kodom, along with freshly cut mangoes, bring the sumptuous meal to a sweet end. And the vanilla ice cream just makes the last bite a wholesome experience.

Chef speak

Chef Kingshuk Kundu, who has whipped up the gastronomical adventure with his team, shared, “The stress is on the ingredients — the freshness and the quality. Since it’s a Bengali fare, it is fish-heavy. That apart, Kosha Mangsho and chicken are also on the menu.”

When asked about the special Til Lonkar Torkari, the chef said, “There’s always a challenge while making a vegetarian dish. While there are traditional items on the menu, something new also has to be curated. The dish is made with green chilli paste and white sesame seeds, and is a mixed vegetable item.”

According to chef Kundu, Kosha Mangsho, Fish Fry, Doi Katla, Pabda and Til Lankar Torkari are some of the items that one must try on the Jamai Sasthi buffet menu.
