The buzzing east Kolkata neighbourhood is a great spot to feast on. The recently revamped ‘Foodpath’, which occupies the promenade bordering the EM Bypass, has a bunch of food stalls and many smaller carts offering an array of sumptuous snacks and beverages. Apart from popular names like Cha o Nachiketa and Cafe Positive, there are other stalls too that offer tea-time snacks and Kolkata’s favourite street foods. After a tour of the Patuli Jheel Park, My Kolkata explored food options on the food street and these are our picks from every stall…
Cha o Nachiketa

After acquiring much popularity at its previous location near Jadavpur’s 8B Bus Stand, this tea stall has found another address at Patuli. Dedicated to Nachiketa, this tea stall sells the singer’s favourite bhanr-er doodh cha with malai (kulhad chai with malai). The tea is milky and strong, with a distinct earthy flavour. Apart from cha, the stall offers over 20 varieties of tea including tandoori chai, vanilla tea, rose tea, chocolate tea and more. The shop also serves coffee, and a limited but tasty selection of snacks like samosas, patties, cupcakes etc.

Khabo ki?

“Khabo ki?” (What to eat?) — This is the eternal question that has inspired the name of this shop. With about 40 items on their menu, including 10 kinds of momos, a range of kebabs and fried snacks, the little eatery has something for everyone. Their Afghani Malai Momo — juicy steamed chicken momos tossed in a white cheesy sauce and garnished with oregano and chilli flakes, is a hit among frequent visitors.

Chicken Pakodas at Momo Man
Are you the type who likes dishes with a twist or unusual food? Then Momo Man is your next destination, and this place probably serves every momo combination imaginable. There is Pizza Momo, Burger Momo, Kurkure Momo, Fish Kabiraji Momo… (phew!) Apart from non-vegetarian options, Momo Man also has four vegetarian momo options, along with kebabs and fried snacks.

Craving an egg roll or some delish chaat? Baithakhana has got your back. Rolls, chaats, chowmein and sandwiches are available at this stall to fill your tummy during your adda sessions. They also have a few drink options like Aam Panna and pineapple juice to quench your thirst.

Haringhata
Haringhata serves frozen snacks fried on the spot
This Haringhata outlet was among the first few stalls that came up when Patuli Jheel Park’s outdoor food court was coming up. The stall, part of the chain under the West Bengal Livestock Development Corporation Limited, has a menu comprising frozen snacks like lollipops, nuggets, burger patties, and more that are fried and served on the spot.

Another standalone stall which has been stealing the limelight for its grilled items is Jibhe Jol. The kebabs hanging from the skewers truly bring jibhe jol, and with a limited but good menu, this stall has managed to gain repeat customers. If you are visiting Patuli Jheel Park during the weekends, you’re sure to find a long queue at Jibhe Jol.

Classic 'phuchka' at Tetuljol
A street-food hotspot in Kolkata is never complete without a phuchka stall. So, Tetuljol is the cherry on the cake at this Patuli street. From good ol’ OG phuchka to fusion phuchka, Tetuljol serves it all. The phuchka parlour offers specially curated non-veg filling besides the iconic Kolkata phuchka. Tetuljol is a sister branch of Anar Special Phuchka Dhaba in Baruipur. Visitors cautious about hygiene particularly enjoy munching on these fun phuchkas.

The popular Deshapriy Park cafe has a branch at Patuli
This one is not a new name for people living in south Kolkata. Cafe Positive, the Deshapriya Park eatery with a cause, has opened a special branch at Patuli. The menu includes most of the regular items. According to the manager, the customers particularly like their mojitos. If you are looking for some healthy options, Cafe Positive will treat you with various kinds of grilled sandwiches and omelettes. Also, this is the only stall that has pork on their menu!

Dakshini (দক্ষিণী)
Dahi vada at Dakshini
Among all the fries, momos and kebabs, Dakshini brings to you the flavours of southern India. Twelve kinds of dosas, soft idlis, tangy dahi vadas and a range of mocktails and blossoms — this stall stands out for its menu! Plus, along with regular dishes, they also have non-veg dosas on the menu.

Ahlade Athkhana
Prawn batter fry at Ahlade Athkhana
A fairly new stall, Ahlade Athkhana offers Bengali snack favourites like fish fry, egg devil, cutlets, potato twisters and more. Their main attraction, however, are the rolled ice-creams. Located in a nondescript corner near the lake, you might miss this little gem, but look for Calcutta Gallery to spot the stall’s blackboard with their handwritten menu.
