In the last few years, chocolate trends have been deliciously fascinating on Instagram reels. While many stopped their doom scrolling only to drool at the decadent recipes, some of us were tempted to try them at home! Every food content creator was bitten by the chocolate bug and there were tonnes of recipes with tips, tricks and twists! Looking back at the sweet memories, for this edition of the Reels of the Week, My Kolkata scouted some viral reels sure to trend on World Chocolate Day.

The Kunafa chocolate recipe travelled the world from Dubai, when the delish chocolate bar became popular on reels. People in Dubai and tourists started posting reels of themselves trying the Kunafa chocolate. The crunch while biting onto the bar of chocolate tempted the netizens to try it. But sadly, it was not available in every country. That's when the messiahs dressed in aprons and armed with spatulas appeared on Instagram reels and showed the easiest way to make the chocolate at home. There also were recipes with toasted sewai to replace the toasted Kunafa. Home bakers, too, started offering the delish chocolate bar on their menus! Haven’t tried it yet? Here's a recipe below.

Who would have thought that a simple street-side dessert from London would make a huge buzz? A glass of fresh strawberries poured with molten chocolate was the trend of the last strawberry season! The world went gaga over this glass of freshness and chocolaty goodness. So much so, that even the cafes in Kolkata and other Indian cities introduced it on their menu. It was like London's best kept secret that was discovered by some culinary explorer. Take a quick at the easiest recipe and try it out the next time you lay your hands on fresh strawberries!

When you think of the word chocolate, three shades might come to mind — brown for milk chocolate, dark brown for dark chocolate and white for white chocolate. But do you remember seeing pink chocolate on reels? If you are a true Instagrammer, you might have come across something called the ruby chocolate. This pink chocolate was introduced by a Belgian-Swiss cocoa company called Barry Callebaut and according to them, this variant of chocolate is made from ruby cocoa beans found in Ecuador. Soon, the world wanted to relish it, but ruby cocoa beans weren't accessible easily. And when you crave it, you have to have it! Following its popularity on Instagram, this chocolate bar was recreated by food content creators and sometimes by mixing berries and pink food colour to white chocolate. Some bars were adorned with edible decorations too!

Most people tried out this viral trend for two reasons. Firstly, to check if chocolate mousse could be made with just one ingredient and secondly, for the easy accessibility of the ingredient. What was it beside chocolate? It was water! Yes, chocolate was melted and mixed with water and churned in a mixer grinder. Refrigerating it yielded a mousse-like texture. While many failed, some trials actually resulted in success when the correct measurements were followed. Craving a chocolate mousse now? You have it on your table instantly! Go celebrate!

The other mousse that hit the trending charts was the apple-chocolate mousse. What surprised many was that the heavenly and decadent mousse was made with an ingredient that most people disliked — boiled apples! But once mixed with chocolate, it was far from what one would expect. The mushiness of the boiled apple brought a mousse-like texture, while the dense chocolate gave the recipe a new dimension. If it is still unbelievable, you can check out Shivesh Bhatia’s reel and give it a try!

Sometimes, some things trend because they are fun! The hot chocolate bombs were trending for the same reason. It was fun to watch a ball of chocolate melting into a glass of hot chocolate or warm milk. Food content creators got innovative with the bombs adding little surprises inside. Around Christmas, there was a melting snowman too!
