The Promenade Lounge is an unmissable part of the iconic lobby at Calcutta’s Taj Bengal. After its revamp and relaunch a few months ago, this quiet, and peaceful coffee shop has become one of the most enjoyable spots in the hotel. Not just food, the space promises a great view of the atrium and has live art and a mini library for guests and non-residential diners to spend a relaxed time at.

(l-r) A significant offering at The Promenade Lounge is the Chai Pe Adda segment which features two different kinds of afternoon tea platters. Here we have the Kolkata Afternoon Tea (non- vegetarian) which is a combination of jhal muri, ghughni, mishti doi, sondesh, mangsher chop, betki fry, and dim chop. The idea behind this platter is to bring together some of the gems from the city’s tea and snack map.

For patrons who wish to indulge in some classic tea time faves, there is the English Afternoon Tea which comes with Smoked Salmon and Dill Sandwiches, Egg Sandwiches, English scones, exotic fruit tart, chocolate brownie muffins and mini cheesecakes. There is also a vegetarian option.

One can also indulge in a wide range of coffee and tea served in the lounge’s signature style. We heart the pretty yellow crockery.

Guest speak: “I stay in Salt Lake but I keep coming here every day because of the atmosphere, it’s so peaceful. I have black coffee here every day, and I come with my daughter every week for a meal but my coffee here every day is a must,” said Srabani Bhattacherjee.

“We meet six months after the relaunch of the lounge and have made a considerable amount of change to the space. The Promenade Lounge is a place where people can come and appreciate art, have their space for meetings, rendezvous and more, and have great food, and appreciate the space they have in the lovely Taj Bengal which is personalised to them. As the head of the hotel, I’d like to thank every guest who has visited us over the last six months and has appreciated us and keeps coming back. With the high tea offerings that we have, now we need to take it to step two and we are already in discussion with our executive chef Nitin Mathur to add to what is already offered and enhance this to more faves from the city for Calcutta patrons to enjoy. Apart from that, I’m very excited to announce to the city that we will be soon launching our newly renovated swimming pool and Grill by the Pool in November. This new space will have many additional offerings from our existing restaurants like Chinoiserie, Cal 27 and Junction,” said Arnab Chatterjee, general manager, Taj Bengal.
