Gurer rosogolla is arguably the hero of all ‘gurer mishti’. The aroma of jaggery and the sponginess of the rosogolla make for the ideal combination. To add to the heavenly experience, savour it hot. Every ‘mishtir dokan’ sells gurer rosogolla. Our vote goes to Putiram (right) on Surya Sen Street and Adi Haridas Modak (left) at Shyambazar five-point-crossing. Innovation, thy name is Balaram Mullick and Radharaman Mullick! The Nolen Gurer Souffle (right) is a modern twist to the traditional ‘gurer sandesh’. The creamy souffle with a hint of jaggery has a subtle, lingering taste. The souffle is sold at Rs 450 for 500 grams and is available in smaller portions as well, at Rs 45 a serve. Besides traditional sweets, there are some newer varieties on offer, too. Mausumi Sandesh made of ‘chhana’, grated coconut, gur and nuts is a winner. Gurer Monohara is one of the most popular sweets at the shop. Be it Gurer Jolbhora or ‘kanchagolla’ with coconut, each has its own share of surprise. The Mausumi Sandesh (top right) is priced at Rs 30 per piece while Monohara (bottom left) costs Rs 25 per piece. Narkeler Kachagolla (bottom right) comes at Rs 20 a piece and Gurer Jolbhora (top left) at Rs 30 per piece or Rs 60 per piece depending on the size
