Better late than never! Social has finally arrived in Kolkata!
Rumours of the cafe chain opening in Kolkata have been around for six years. So, to be sure, we waited until Impresario Entertainment & Hospitality publicly announced the opening date, and the interiors were set in cement.
The location? 1A, Russel Street (near India’s Hobby Centre), which was formerly home to Trapeze bar and restaurant. If you turn left from Park Street onto Russel Street, you are sure to come across a big screen on the building on the right that says ‘Social’ in both English and Bengali.
Until it opens for walk-in customers post the launch party on November 2, 2023, you can place your orders through the Social Offline website or using food delivery apps.
Just like the other 47 Socials around the country, this outlet takes its inspiration from its surroundings, and the Kolkata Social is all about celebrating the rich culture of Bengal, its cinematic legends, poets, and musicians. From its love for jazz to intricate details reminiscent of an old Bengali house, this spot has it all. The ‘urban hangout’ spans three floors and covers a generous 10,000 square feet. There’s a seating section on the first floor, a DJ and dance floor on the second and a rooftop with a live pizza kitchen on the third.
The decor features a stylish black and white tile pattern, complemented by vibrant hues. The walls are adorned with framed photographs of different views of Kolkata and you’ll even find a phonograph highlighting the city’s love for music.
It will be interesting to see how Kolkata embraces this national brand that has taken its time to carefully consider the city as a promising market.
