Honouring the magnificence of Awadhi culture and recognising the contributions of the last Nawab of Awadh, Wajid Ali Shah, to this vibrant city, The Westin Kolkata Rajarhat organised Shaam-e-Awadh, with t2. The second edition of the programme that’s now part of the star property’s annual winter calendar, saw spectacular performances that took everyone to the city of nawabs, Lucknow. The traditional rhythms of Kathak was the first performance to bring alive the evening, adding the melody of ghunghroo to the air that was already heavy with the fragrance of flowers and attar. With her graceful moves, Tanni Chaudhuri gave way to the second performance, Dastangoi, a traditional style of storytelling. The partnership of Zahid Hossain and Pallash Chaturvedi entertained the audience thoroughly. The last performance of the evening, Shaam-e-Mehfil by Atif Ali Khan, the great-grandson of Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan, concluded the evening on a magical note.
