Built in 1907, The Bhawanipur House is essentially a colonial bungalow restored in its classic glory and converted into a space for delectable dishes, drinks and conversations. Spread over an area of over 11,000 sq ft, the property spans over three levels that traverse the indoor as well as outdoor theme. A tea lounge, a bakery, dining rooms, open-air terrace and yard, live pizza kitchen and enclosed terrace seating are the key zones in the bungalow.
The Telegraph gets you a first look.
The entrance is a quaint yard with a fountain and pebbled walkway. The outer building is done up in shades of yellow and white, whereas the interiors have a running theme of black and white flooring in common places and distinct colour-themed rooms
The second level is the terrace that has white and gray Chinese mosaic flooring along with white furniture. It’s open air and also has an enclosure that can be used for private parties as well as screenings. The terrace also has the live pizza kitchen
The ground floor houses the bakery and the tea lounge where a tea expert will hold tea tasting sessions. They also have an upcoming games and open air adda zone
The purple room on the first floor also has a medieval era balcony that overlooks the front yard. It’s going to be quite a photo worthy spot
Sip and bite
Virgin Cucumber Gimlet: Club soda, simple syrup, cucumber, lime and white sugar make this refreshing sip that’s a good accompaniment to any meal
Peanut Noodle Salad: Rice noodles, exotic vegetables served with peanut sauce make for this crunchy and spicy, tangy salad that’s also a filling meal
Mediterranean Buddha Bowl and Quinoa: Tzatziki, muhammara, and chickpeas tossed with BBQ sauce, lavash and quinoa salad is a game-changer when it comes to Mediterranean flavours
Chicken Tenders: A special marination when it comes to chicken tenders, this one’s crusted with coconut and has a tangy mango salsa drizzled on top
Lasagna Genovese: The Lasagna gets a pesto twist where the usual tomato paste layering is replaced by herby basil pesto and then baked to perfection
“Flooring is the binder of the entire space. Every room and floor has a different character. All the furniture in the space has been restored. All doors as well as windows have also been restored and are made of pure Burma teak,” said Shashank Shahabadi, architect
The menu curated and designed by chef Sneha Singhi is an amalgamation of “salads, and sandwiches. Colonial era continental dishes, fusion mains as well as delish desserts.”
“We are essentially into mining and logistics and when we acquired this property around three years ago, we spent a great time debating what to do with it and now we’re so glad and equally nervous to step into the hospitality industry,” said brothers and co-founders Vishnu (right) and Vishal Sureka
