Yaadein, a lyrical piece by santoor player Chiradip Sarkar and Jamuna Kumari Damai, was recently launched in the presence of distinguished musicians like Joy Sarkar, Debojyoti Mishra and Pandit Tarun Bhattacharya.
The piece carries with it an aura of melancholy, which is evident in his touching lyrics and mindful arrangements. The piece heavily features the use of classical instruments like the flute, santoor, violin, among others, which further the doleful nature of the song. The song is sung by Jamuna Kumari Damai, whose soulful voice furthers the tragic nature of the song. The instruments in the song are played by illustrious musicians like Soumyajyoti Ghosh on flute, Indradeep Ghosh on violin, Tuhin Karmakar on tabla among many others. The mixing and the mastering of the song was done by Sanjoy Ghosh from Studio Resonance (Calcutta).
Being the son of legendary musician Late Pandit Chandi Das Sarkar, Chiradip Sarkar was introduced to the multifaceted world of music through taalim in tabla at a very young age. That was the inception of Chiradip Sarkar’s journey into becoming an illustrious santoor player, and ultimately becoming an ardent disciple of eminent santoor legend Pandit Tarun Bhattacharyya.
It was under the guidance of his mentor that Sarkar cultivated a dream of venturing into a myriad of other avenues like musical direction, composition and even musical arrangement. After admiring and closely following the works of other maestros and ultimately the path he followed into, Chiradip started to look into the possibility of creating his own song, where the composition, lyrics and arrangement were his own. These dreams are what finally led to the genesis of Yaadein.
