XIA 2023 celebrate contributions of Eminent Xaverians in myriad fields

Excellence in various sectors, ex students of St. Xaviers College(Calcutta) gets rewarded for their meritorious deeds

St. Xavier’s College (Calcutta) Alumni Association (SXCCAA) along with its South Zone Chapter organised ‘Xaverians In Action’ (XIA) 2023 on January 29 at the Grand Mercure Hotel, Gopalan Mall, Bengaluru. Xav.Biz, the first part of the evening had panel discussions on important topics surrounding business and society. Following that, eight eminent Xaverians across the fields of music were felicitated with the XIA Global Excellence Award. Fr. (Dr) Dominic Savio, principal, St. Xavier’s College, Calcutta (Autonomous) was the chief guest for the evening. Snapshots.

Xav.Biz had panel discussions with eminent entrepreneurs from all over India. The topics were ‘Change in Business Dynamics post the Pandemic’ and ‘Crystal Ball Gazing 2023 and Beyond’. The sessions were moderated by Sayamdeb Mukherjee, vice-president, planning and control, United Breweries Ltd.

Firdausul Hasan, secretary, SXCCAA, was felicitated by Fr. (Dr) Dominic Savio SJ and the organising team. He addressed the august gathering by outlining SXCAA’s philanthropic endeavours, and plans surrounding networking and fellowship and also talked about the work the organisation has carried out. Talking about the Xaverian motto of ‘Nihil Ultra’, he stressed the importance of people being dedicated towards the betterment of others.

Mahabir Prasad Agrawall received the Excellence in Business Leadership Award.

Niladri Majumdar, president and COO, Seiko Watches, India, put up two watches for a silent auction, where the bidding would start from half their prices. The amount will go towards charitable work carried out by SXCCAA.

Entrepreneurturned-author Amit Bagaria pledged a huge sum of money for the developmental works being carried out in the rural campus in Raghabpur and the newly-proposed third campus. He also received the XIA Excellence in Journalism Award.

Rudra Shankar Roy, leading the organising team of XIA 2023, delivered a note on the work that the South Chapter has carried out over the past few years, and its plans looking forward. “The legacy of the Xaverian family will continue. We had reached out to lakhs of families during Covid, along with the St. Joseph’s family and have set a benchmark. This is what the Xaverian family stands for,” he added.

Debaditya Chaudhary, managing director, Chowman Hospitality Pvt Ltd, received the Excellence in NextGen Entrepreneurship Award.

The chief guest’s address was delivered by Fr. (Dr.) Dominic Savio SJ, principal, SXCC and president, SXCCAA. He focused on the role of the college in bettering education across all social classes, the progress that St. Xavier’s College, Raghabpur Campus has made in academics and the importance of philanthropic work which makes us take a step forward and give back to society in some way.
