Kolkata witnessed a musical evening on the first Saturday of March with three generations of musicians coming together. ‘Trimurti: Chapter TWO’ — a musical extravaganza had Padma Bhushan awardee Usha Uthup, Lopamudra Mitra and Iman Chakraborty (L to R) perform together in a concert at Nazrul Mancha
All photographs by Amit PramanikIman, who is recovering from a leg injury, kept the audience on its toes with her scintillating performance. Her first song for the gig was ‘Aigiri Nandini’. She swiftly moved on to her chartbuster ‘Tapa Tini’, engaging in a fun banter with Sujoy Prosad Chatterjee, who was seen enjoying the concert thoroughly
Iman, too, sang a Rabindrasangeet ‘Majhe majhe tobo’ and showcased her vocal prowess with a Dhamail number from Bangladesh called ‘Chand uthechhe oi’, amalgamating it with ‘Sohag chand badani’. From Moheener Ghoraguli’s ‘Bhebe dekhechho ki’ to its Hindi rendition ‘Bheegi bheegi’, the viral ‘Alada alada’ from the film ‘Ardhangini’ to ‘Rangabati’, Iman grooved and made her audience do the same. She ended her set with ‘Tume jaakey bhalobaso’ from ‘Praktan’
Usha Uthup, who was sitting backstage listening to Iman perform soon took centrestage and in no time the audience broke into a dance. Fifty-four years of being a performer, Usha has a special reciprocal relationship with music lovers. While her first song was ‘I love music’, RD Burman’s ‘Tumi koto je durey’ and ‘Hai ye maya’ from ‘Don 2’ soon added to the vibe
