Expect: The eighth international convention of Xaverians will be a two-day gala affair held in the Lion City of the world. After a successful international convention last year in London, members of the Calcutta chapter along with members of other international chapters are gearing up for their Singapore meet. Around 200 alumni members are expected to take part in the event, with 70-80 members attending from Calcutta. Like every other year, the purpose of the convention is fellowship and fundraising.
The first day’s event lineup includes registration followed by networking of alumni members and designer Abhishek Dutta’s fashion show. Actress Rituparna Sengupta will walk the ramp along with models and alumni members. The cultural performances will conclude with a DJ night and band performance by local artistes.
Day two will start with the inaugural session in the presence of fathers and several dignitaries of Singapore, including the Indian high commissioner. It will be followed by a talk session and felicitation of four Singapore-based successful alumni members. The evening programme will proceed into a celebrity talk show with a surprise guest and a business meet session with Suborno Bose, Sanjay Budhia and many other well-known business personalities. Like every year, the Global Xaverian Award will be awarded to an alumni member for their exemplary achievements in life. The event will conclude on a melodious note with the performance of the musical duo Sourendro and Soumyojit. The final day will begin with the chapter meet in the morning followed by the screening of the popular film Aparajito that bagged many national and international honours last year.
Organiser speak: “Beyond Boundaries VIII will be held in Singapore this year and the purpose will be fellowship and fundraising. At this event, we will be raising funds for our upcoming media hub and research centre on EM Bypass in Calcutta. The participation of the members in large numbers, the excellent lineup of meaningful events and cultural programmes will make this convention a memorable one. Such events help Xaverians in taking our alma mater to greater heights,” said Firdausul Hasan, honorary secretary of SXCCAA.
