t2 caught up with the singer on the sidelines of her music release and spoke to her about the song, her music, her upcoming projects and more.

Tell us something about the background of the song and how you came to be a part of it.

This is a love song. It is about self-love, love for those around you and your near and dear ones. The song is very close to my heart. It is about being happy and making others happy. Dipangshu Acharya composed the lyrics and Saptak Sanai Das composed the music for this song which was produced by Iman Chakraborty Production, and that is how I became associated with it. A big shout-out to my team members in Iman Chakraborty Production who helped me a lot in finally getting this song released.

Share with us your thoughts on the song.. its theme and what it means to you.

This is a very sweet song about love. Life is tough for all of us, which is why I think it is important to listen to songs that make us feel happy and loved. And this song does just that — it makes you want to love deeply and live well. I feel that a song like this one can go a long way in lifting our spirits. It feels good to know that many people have heard this song already and the feedback is that they simply loved it.

What was special about the release function of Tomake Dekhbo Bole?

Certainly the best part about this release function is that we could include the thalassemia-affected children and I am grateful to Serum Thalassemia Prevention Federation for that. I am also glad that I was able to distribute live-saving medicines to them as part of the programme. I was really happy that Debojyoti Mishra and Indraadip Dasgupta could make it to the launch. I must also mention Nilanjan (Ghosh) and Sanai (Saptak Sanai Das) specially for being there for me today. This was the first major release by Iman Chakraborty Production, so it was special in every way and I am grateful for all those who graced the occasion with their presence.

Was this your first connection with kids through your music? Do you have any further plans to be associated with children through your work?

When I first saw them I was instantly struck by their positivity and innocence. Whereas we complain about so many things all the time, these children, for whom survival is a daily challenge, have shown me that it is possible to face life with a smile, in spite of its troubles. I loved to interact with them and am glad that I could help them in my small way. I was so touched when they said that they love my songs and often listen to them. As I have told them already, I want to stay connected with them through the Foundation and hope that I can continue to help their cause with my efforts.

Are you involved in any other social projects?

I am personally involved in taking care of stray animals in my area. We have a small organisation which planted saplings in many places in our city. I feel that as responsible citizens it is the least that we can do for ourselves and our surroundings. Planting of trees is perhaps one of the most pressing needs of our time. I am also actively involved in a trust that ensures the distribution of rations, clothing and other essentials to the poor and needy at regular intervals. However, in the future I look forward to contributing more significantly towards social causes.

Share with us something about your upcoming music projects.

As you know our industry runs in two parallel streams, film music and original songs by the different artistes. By the grace of God, I am comfortable with both genres and have done work in both streams that has been appreciated by critics and audiences alike. At the moment I am looking forward to a few film releases. The three film songs that I have done recently for Indubala Bhaater Hotel, Ardhangini and Love Marriage, were all loved by the audience and I am hoping for a positive feedback to my forthcoming releases as well. Right now I am working simultaneously on new music for record companies and also for my own production house.
