The Theme: Sopan or stairs is this year’s theme at Santoshpur Trikon Park, which is in its 74th year of celebrations. The theme represents the ups and downs in life, represented through the different kinds of stairs present throughout the pandal. The top of the pandal has a flight of steps leading up to the sky or heavens as if it were symbolising our ultimate quest to reach the eternal. Sanjib Saha has conceptualised the theme and wants the visitors to get an essence of the vagaries of life through his art.
Organiser speak: “Our theme in our 74th year is sopan. Sanjib Saha has conceptualised the pandal. Sopan means stairs, our life is full of ups and downs. Sometimes we fail and fall down and sometimes with immense success we are at the zenith of the stairs. Therefore, we have used stairs to represent that. Sometimes the stairs are in half and sometimes in full. A complete set of steps means the achievement of success. Life’s stairs are thus represented here in our pandal. Dipankar Pal has made the idol. The stairs on top of the pandal are slowly directed towards heaven. We do not know how far heaven is, but we have left our stairs 60 feet above to indicate that passage. This is an artistic creation. We need to understand the various things we face in life. Just because one has succeeded doesn’t mean that one gets to rule the world. Our lives run in waves and sopan or stairs show those ups and downs,” said Partha Pratim Roy, president, Santoshpur Trikon Park Sarbojanin.

Rooting for the Club is: Gargee Roy Chowdhury. “I have been associated with PPL since its very beginning. I was just saying after 20 years when I will still be invited, I will come here for my archival value. Coming to today’s event, it’s a pleasure to be here. Santoshpur is a very well-known place for me. Trikon Park’s Pujo is always very unique and authentic. The Durga idol is always beautiful and traditional. I will not say a lot about the theme here, whoever comes here should be able to interpret it on their own. It was a delight to be part of The Telegraph’s PPL today and interacting with the members of the club,” said the actor.
Activities: Pratyasa Biswas, a member of the neighbourhood, presented a beautiful dance performance to the Agomoni song, Ya Devi. It was followed by representatives of Indian Institute of Hotel Management, Payel Paul and Surajit Barua, felicitating Gargee, who looked ethereal in a yellow sari. This was followed by an interesting adda session and conversations brewed along with engaging stories from the lives of four participating couples. The event concluded with a number of happy selfies.
