The Calcutta launch of Nicobar, a Delhi-based mindful design-led brand, at Woorburn Park Road earlier this month was accompanied by a lyrical session. It saw Karuna Ezra Parekh in conversation with Kerala-based author and poet Megha Rao. On her maiden trip to Calcutta, Rao, who found similarity between her home state and the City of Joy, said, “The audience was very receptive and I love an audience that is responsive, kind and mindful of the artists’ space. When Karuna and I sat to discuss about the event we were sure that we will look at themes like politics and feminism but have pockets of fun as well with talks about the craft and about writing poetry for social media.” The performance poet who is known for her podcast Poems To Calm Down To and her book Teething, dedicated her final poem to the Calcutta audience.

Talking about the poetry session, Karuna said, “I was delighted when Nicobar contacted me and it’s a brand that truly embodies an aesthetic modern living. I wasn’t surprised when they said they want a poetry event, it felt so on-brand for them. It’s a delight to see a big brand moving towards the arts. So I was grateful and together we put an event like this.”
