Jadavpur University convocation
The executive council of Jadavpur University decided on Tuesday to hold only the annual convocation on December 24. The university usually holds a special convocation to award honorary DSc and DLitt on the same day as the annual convocation. Degree certificates are awarded to the graduating students at the annual convocation.
Book launch
A commemorative book titled Media in the Changing Times was launched at the Press Club on Tuesday to mark the 70th birth anniversary of Tapati Basu, a former head of the journalism and mass communication department and dean of Calcutta University.
The book was unveiled by academic and historian Suranjan Das, the vice-chancellor of Adamas University and the former vice-chancellor of Calcutta and Jadavpur universities. Edited by Snehasis Sur, the book includes essays and reflections from 40 professors and researchers of journalism and mass communication. The inaugural "Professor Tapati Basu Memorial Lecture" was delivered by Dhiman Chattopadhyay, a professor of journalism at Shippensburg University in the US.
