Till 11.15am, Kolkata Traffic Police did not post any list of programmes that may affect the city traffic on Saturday (28.9.2024). However, KTP posted a notification regarding Mahalaya, Durga Puja and Durga Puja and Lakshmi Puja immersions between October 2 and 18.

Rain may play devil this Puja

The spectre of rain looms over Durga Puja. The Met office has predicted rain in Bengal in two phases -- October 5 to 9 and October 10 to 13. The rain is unlikely to be heavy, the Met office said. Mahalaya falls on October 2 this year. October 9 is Sashthi.

According to a bulletin issued from the Regional Meteorological Centre in Alipore, the forecast for October 5 to 9, for both south Bengal and north Bengal, is: "Light to moderate rain/thundershower likely at many places over all the districts".

The forecast for October 10 to 13: "Light rain/thundershower likely at a few places over all the districts".

"Rain is expected in Calcutta in these two phases. But heavy rain is unlikely," said a Met official.

Doctors go on strike

Junior doctors at College of Medicine and Sagore Dutta Hospital on the northern fringes of the city withdrew from emergency and essential services on Friday night after some of them were allegedly assaulted over a woman’s death. Junior doctors across medical colleges in Bengal were on a 42-day cease-work from August 9 and resumed partial duties from September 21. Sources said the patient’s family alleged that negligence by doctors caused the death.
