Khalin Joshi and S.S.P. Chawrasia finished one and two in the mens’ trial, while Pranavi Urs and Avani Prashanth were the top-two finishers in the womens’ section at the Royal Calcutta Golf Club (RCGC) on April 27, as part of the selection trials for the 2023 Asian Games. Golfers from Bengaluru dominated the three-day event, which was organised in Kolkata by the Indian Golf Union (IGU).

With their exemplary performances, three “Garden City” golfers have qualified for the continental sporting extravaganza. Khalin Joshi led the three-round tally with 67, 68 and 68 finishing two strokes ahead of four-time European Tour winner S.S.P. Chawrasia, who shot 11-under 205 at RCGC. The two will join India's two highest-ranked pros, Anirban Lahiri (95) and Shubhankar Sharma (227), in the national squad for the Hangzhou Asian Games, which will take place in China between September 23 and October 8, 2023. Due to the COVID-19 surge in China last year, the 2022 Asiad was postponed by a year.
