Caravan in association with social yard organised a three-day on-street festival, Parboni, from April 7 to 9 at Samaj Sebi Sangha grounds. The festival was arranged ahead of Nava Varsha to exhibit a wide variety of products with a touch of Bangaliana. Around 50 brands displayed their products such as handmade décor items, accessories and garments. Food stalls, panel discussions and cultural events added charm to the festival.
Several personalities from various walks of life dropped by, such as Sohini Sarkar, Debasish Kumar, Mala Roy, Shaheb Chattopadhyay, Koushi Roy, Trina Saha, and many others. Scientist Dr. Taniya Das, music director Soumya Basu, culture entrepreneur and founder of TablaInc Bonnya Bose, singer Chandrabali Rudra Dutta, Bibhabendu Chattopadhyay, and others spoke about the nostalgia feelings evoked by Nava Varsha.
The event also saw a Nabo Borshiyo Adda, which had everyone’s attention. Shaheb Chattopadhyay belted out songs that elevated the festive mood. Bonnya Bose and Soumya Basu discussed the values of remaining anchored in Bangaliana culture while embracing the positive aspects of social and technical progress. The final evening of Parboni featured music performances by Chandrabali Rudra Dutta and Bibhabebdu Chattopadhyay.
“It was so heartwarming to see a crowd almost like a Puja celebration happening on the eve of the Bengali New Year. It is indeed a welcome trend in terms of business and propagation of Bangaliana to the core. The stalls were gorgeous, the programmes were eclectic and the talk shows were lively. Best part was that the audience participation was at its best. I must congratulate the organisers for planning this festival so very well,” said Bonnya Bose.
